Richard S. "Rick" Wein

Richard S. "Rick" Wein passed away on September 30, 2024 after a year-long illness at the age of 76.

Rick spent his early life in Winthrop, MA. There, he played baseball, worked at his father's pharmacy and caused just a small amount of mischief. Rick graduated from Winthrop Senior High, going on to achieve a bachelor's degree from Boston State and master's degrees from Northeastern University and Salem State College. His career was spent educating students from middle school to college. He taught history, sociology and anthropology. His dedication to his profession and keen ability to make learning enjoyable led his students to hold him in high regard. Rick could always be found reading books, newspapers and journals, as he was ever a scholar himself. He took particular interest in politics and foreign affairs. Rick enjoyed photography, cars and fixing things around his home. If he didn’t have a tool to fix something, he’d make one to fit the bill. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors and particularly loved spending time by the ocean.

Rick leaves behind his wife, Mary, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Rick and Mary met in high school, going on to marry and raise their family in Lynnfield, MA. Rick was a devoted, supportive and loving husband. Rick and Mary were constant companions, standing side by side through the many seasons of life.

Rick leaves behind his son Michael and his wife Emily along with their children, Max and Anna. Rick also leaves behind his daughter Andreya, her husband Matthew, and their children, Emery, Levi and Zara. Michael, Andreya and their spouses will miss Rick's sharp wit and sarcasm, as well as his quiet, steady support and love. Rick was an adoring grandfather to his 5 young grandchildren, relishing any time he spent with "the kids". Rick loved to teach his grandchildren new things and always showed genuine interest in each child's life. He very much enjoyed babysitting, spectating at sporting events and attending recitals. "The kids" will miss him dearly.

Rick is pre-deceased by his parents Herbert and Thelma Wein. Rick leaves behind his sister Joni Lief and her husband Larry of Kennebunkport, ME, along with their children and grandchildren.

Rick also leaves behind his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edmund and Beverly Rich of Burlington, MA. He leaves behind dear friends, Barry and Ellen Berman of Henderson, NV. He shared many laughs and joyful moments with Edmund, Bev, Barry and Ellen.

Rick will be forever missed by his family and friends. We will carry his memory with us throughout our lives. May he have everlasting peace.

A service of dedication will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
