Robert S. Barile

Robert S. Barile, age 90, of Lynnfield, formerly of Everett, died Tuesday, May 28 at his home surrounded by his family after a brief period of failing health.

Born on September 9, 1933 he was the son of the late Abele and Carmela (Abate) Barile.

Mr. Barile was born and raised in Everett and was a proud Lewis Street Ace. On November 11, 1961, he met the love of his life, Betty Corolla, whom he married exactly one year later. Together, they made their home in Everett, where they raised their children and were devoted members of the former St. Joseph Church. Relocating to Lynnfield in the early 1990s, with family soon following, marked a new chapter for Robert and Betty.

Dedicated to education, Mr. Barile earned a master’s degree and dedicated his professional life to shaping young minds as an American History teacher at Everett High School. His tenure culminated in serving as department head until his retirement in 1996. Family meant everything to him, particularly supporting his grandchildren at their various sporting events where he and Betty could always be found cheering from the sidelines. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching classic western films, gathering with friends for coffee at Honey Dew and Panera, and reading books.

He was the beloved husband of Betty A. (Corolla) with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Linda Anderson and her husband John of Lynnfield, Robert Barile of New Jersey, and Andrea Barile of Everett. He was the adoring “Papa” to Cristina Petersen and her husband Brett, Courtney Anderson, Craig Anderson, Elizabeth Barile, and Anna Barile. He was the adoring great grandfather to Johnny, Nico, and Cami Petersen. He was the brother of Emma Freni of Malden and the late Pasquale Barile, Palma Lucas, Evelyn Zullo, Richard Barile and Joseph Barile. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield on Saturday, June 1 at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday, May 31 from 4-7pm. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital at Mass General Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114-1101.
