Robert Blatchford, Sr.

Robert William Blatchford , Sr ., 91, of Peabody, formerly of Wakefield, died on Wednesday, May 11 at his home.

Born in Melrose on November 6, 1919, to Francis Xavier Blatchford and Elise Dolan, Bob had one sister, Dorothy, and three brothers, Richard, Harold and John.

Bob grew up in Melrose where he met his wife, Virginia Theresa Barber. Bob and Virginia had one son, Robert , Jr., who lives in Apex, North Carolina, with his wife, Kimberly, and their two daughters, Katelyn and Lauren. After the passing of Virginia, Bob found devoted companionship with his close friend, Shirley Reardon, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

Bob served in World War II as a Sergeant in the United States Army in the 1252 Air Force base unit and saw tours of duty in Europe and Africa. He spent his career at AT&T working as an Operations Technician. Active in his church, St. Florence in Wakefield, Bob was an avid golfer and bridge player, as well as a lover of dogs.

Bob will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave, Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-5pm. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, Bob requested that donations be made to an animal hospital.
