Robert B . Stebbins was born and raised in Wakefield, one of nine children. Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 20th, after a prolonged battle with illness. He was a graduate of Wakefield High school, Class of 66. He was drafted into the Army and was sent to Vietnam, where he earned the bronze star, among other honors. In 1973 he wed the love of his life Donna (Devlin) Stebbins , with whom he shared 42 wonderful years of marriage.
He spent his entire working life at The Wakefield Corporation, until it closed. He then spent his short retirement fixing up the house he was so proud to own. He was an avid fisherman. Bob loved nature and animals he also enjoyed fishing the ponds near his home during his remaining years. His knowledge of nature and animals was extraordinary. He was a kind and gentle man with a very deep soul, and an enormous heart. A man truly one of a kind, and he will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Donna, his only daughter, Samantha ( Stebbins ) Catanzaro, her husband David of Wakefield, and his cherished grandson, Max Robert , and many family and friends, as well as his siblings, Maureen, Karen, Dawn, Richard, Jane, and his late parents Alice and Clarence Stebbins and his siblings Maryellen "Nada", June and John.
Friends and family are invited to pay respects at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Tuesday, June 23, starting at 4pm and ending at 6pm, at which time military honors and flag presentation will be performed.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the American Liver Foundation, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
