Roger A. Curran, 76, a life-long resident of Wakefield, died at the Melrose – Wakefield Hospital on Monday, October 15.
Born in Wakefield on June 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Matthew P. and Elsie (Brown) Curran.
Roger was a graduate of Wakefield High School, class of 1955. He had served in the U.S. Army and had served the community as a Fire Fighter in the town of Wakefield. He was active in the Youth Sports Programs (Hockey and Baseball) and was one of the founders of the local Babe Ruth League. He was an active member and past president of the West Side Social Club. An avid golfer, Roger's favorite hobby was performing magic tricks for the local children.
Mr. Curran was the husband of Arlene M. (Donaher) Curran. He was the father of Debbie Pond and her husband Jeff of Wakefield, Danny Curran and his wife Kim of North Reading, and Dianne Fazio and her husband Dennis of Melrose. Roger was the brother of Robert P. Curran and Gary W. Curran both of Wakefield. He was the grandfather of Chris, Timmy, Katie, Matthew, Shane, Jared, Christina and Samantha and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave Wakefield, Thursday at 9:00 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 8 P.M.
Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
