Santa Ferrara

Santa L . Ferrara formerly of Wakefield and Haverhill passed away on January 19, 2010. Her passing was peaceful at Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. Mrs. Ferrara was a beloved wife of 43 years of the late Charles (Charlie) Ferrara who passed away in 1976 and the mother of Concetto C. (Chuck) Ferrara of Haverhill, MA.

Mrs. Ferrara was born June 28, 1911 and was the daughter of the late Mario Ferrara and Concetta (Sampieri) Ferrara . Santa as she was so lovingly called worked for 40 years at LB Evans Shoe Company and Copley Shoe Company both major shoe industries in Wakefield for many years. Additionally Santa with her husband Charlie worked for some 30 years at another Wakefield hallmark, Frank's Bakery on Water St. They worked side by side with their 2 best friends, the owners, the late Frank and Grace Cicciarella.

Santa was a member of the former Christ Community Baptist Church in Wakefield until its closing many years ago. Currently she has been a member of First Baptist Church in Wakefield. She was never more happy than when helping others in their time of need. Also a great joy for her was to prepare large Italian meals for anywhere between 2 or 50 people. Everyone loved her cooking. She will be missed by all for many reasons. Not the least of which was her great smile and her loving caring ways.

She is survived by her son Chuck of Haverhill, her grandson Jonathan Ferrara and his wife Janette of Saugus and her granddaughter Amy Torro and her husband Steve of Tewksbury. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Nicholas and Christopher Ferrara and Brittany and Alexis Torro.

A funeral service will be held in the Loud Chapel of the First Baptist Church, 8 Lafayette St., Wakefield on Friday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations be made in Santa's name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. (http://www.cancer.org/docroot/DON/DON_0.asp).
