Santo J. Ballato, age 89 of Peabody and formerly of Wakefield died September 10. Born in Pittsfield, MA on June 2, 1922 the son of the late Antonio & Josephine (Nigrelli) Ballato. Mr. Ballato was raised in Pittsfield and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He had worked for the General Electric Company and was later self employed painter and wall covering specialist. Mr. Ballato was a W.W. II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He had been a member of the Reading V.F.W. and also a member and past Post Commander of the Reading Chapter of the D.A.V.. He had been a Peabody resident for the past seven years.
He was the husband of Geraldine (Dionne) Ballato and the late Bertha (Benson) Ballato. He was the father of Bertha Shaw & husband Stanley and Sandra Atwell & fiancé Shawn all of Pittsfield, Jeanne McDonald & husband Jay of No. Reading, Linda Swain & husband Bob and Christopher Weldon & wife Maddy all of FL and the late Debra McCauley, Cecelia Verchot, Francis & Arthur Shaw. He was the brother of the late Charles, Samuel, Anthony & Joseph Ballato and Jenny DiGrigoeli. He is also survived by many grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield Tuesday beginning at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 11:00. Interment will be at the V.A. National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
