Serena J. Murley, 90, of Stoneham, formerly of Wakefield died on Friday, June 3. at the Winchester Hospital.
She was born in Wakefield where she lived for most of her life as a dedicated member of the community and over the years worked in the school system and in town administration offices. A committed volunteer, she contributed energetically to the establishment of the METCO program in Wakefield, was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and was most proud of her work that led to the reactivation of the Sweetser Lecture Series for which she served in a leadership role for over 25 years.
Wife of the late Melvin Murley. Survived by daughter Elizabeth Thompson and her husband Daniel and grandchildren Riley and Logan of Topsfield, son Peter Murley and his wife Susan and grandchildren Laura and Benjamin of South Hamilton, son Jeff Murley and grandchildren Nathan and Jason of Topsfield. Also survived by sister Viola Simeola and her husband Mario Simeola, sister Mary Sardella, and many neices and nephews
A celebration of life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 326 Main St, Wakefield on Tuesday at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave on Monday from 4-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. 529 Wakefield, MA 01880.
