Shirley E . Simpson , 93, of Wakefield died on Monday, May 28 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Malden on December 23, 1918 she was the daughter of the late
E . Paul and Lucinda (White) Larkin.

Mrs. Simpson was a graduate of Melrose High School; Class of 1935 and Malden Business College. She had been a Wakefield resident since 1950 and was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in Wakefield since 1951. Mrs. Simpson had worked as a secretary for Dupont Industries, Dr. Diamond DMD in Melrose and Surety Bank in Wakefield. She was a member of the Gold Star Wives of America, Chairman of the Townwide Heart Fund Drive for 2 years, Chairman of the Wakefield YMCA Auxiliary, a member of the Wakefield Mother's Club and the Women's Guild and a Sunday School Teacher for the First Parish Congregational Church in Wakefield. For three years, she was a Den Mother for the Wakefield Cub Scouts.

Mrs. Simpson summered at her home on Drakes Island in Wells, Maine with her family since 1945 and was a member of the Drakes Island Improvement Association, Save Our Shores (S.O.S.) and Laudholm Trust. She was an avid bridge player, reader and ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Mrs. Simpson was the wife of the late George F. Simpson , who was a disabled veteran of WW II and a recipient of the Bronze Star. She is survived by her son Bradford A. Simpson and his wife Judy of Wakefield, her sister Rae Kidd of Florida, and her two grandchildren; Scott B. Simpson and his wife Sally and Beth A. Simpson and her partner Erin. Mrs. Simpson was predeceased by her sister June Carney and her cousin Thelma Brown.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at the First Parish Congregational Church in Wakefield at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Friday from 6-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army-Wakefield Unit c/o Trudy Delory, 368 Vernon Street, Wakefield, MA 01880.
