Sister Georgiana Smith, Notre Dame de Namur, 87, died Thursday, October 23 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose.

Born in Somerville on February 17, 1921 she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Ellen (McDonald) Smith.

Sister Georgiana was a graduate of Somerville High School and Emmanuel College in Boston. She was a teacher at St. Mary's School in Lynn, St. Mary's School in Lawrence and St. Michael's School in Hudson. She was also Pastoral Associate at St. Augustine's Church in Andover and Principal at Holy Rosary in Lawrence.

Sister Georgiana was the sister of the late Russell Smith and his wife Katherine Fothergill Smith. She was the aunt of William Smith of Stoneham, Paul Smith of Brewster, Gene Smith of Billerica, Kevin Smith of North Reading, Robert Smith of Arlington and Brian Smith of Litchfield, NH. Sister Georgiana is also survived by several great nieces, great nephews, many friends and her community the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St, Wakefield, on Monday at 6 PM. Relatives and friends may call at St. Joseph Church, on Monday prior to the mass from 3-6 PM. Interment will be on Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden at 10:30 AM.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Congregation Mission Office, 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd, Ipswich, MA 01938.
