Sophie Tonnesen

Sophie C . Tonnesen , 99, of Wakefield and formerly of New York passed away at the Brightview Assisted Living Center in Danvers on June 18.

Born in New York, NY on February 3, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Jadwiga (Antosiewski) Miskiewicz.

Mrs. Tonnesen was raised and educated in Pennsylvania before moving back to New York in 1929 where she settled in Staten Island. After retiring from the New York Telephone Company, Sophie moved to Wakefield in 1993 and had been a member of St. Athanasius Parish in Reading.

Mrs. Tonnesen was the wife of the late Marcus T. Tonnesen , who died in 1985. She is survived by her son Robert Tonnesen & his wife Pauline of The Villages, FL and her daughter Joyce Hardy & husband Bruce of Wakefield. She was the grandmother of R. Mark Tonnesen , Paul W. Tonnesen and Jennifer Hardy - Thornton. Mrs. Tonnesen was the greatmother of Cali, Amanda, and Brittany Tonnesen and Ella and Alexa Thornton. Sophie was the sister of Emily Kotanchik of PA and the late Jean Myslinski , Dorothy Ostasiewski and William & Edward Miskiewicz , Helen Yurek and Celia Bryan.

Relatives and friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 am to be followed by a funeral mass in St. Athanasius Church Reading at 10:00.

Interment will be at Moravian Cemetery in Staten Island, NY.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading, MA 01867.
