Stanley G. Mitchell Jr., of Stoneham and Billerica, passed away peacefully on March 21 after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. He was 76.
Born in Stoneham, Stan was the son of the late Stanley G. and Margaret M. (Barry) Mitchell.
Stan was a graduate of Stoneham High School in 1966. After graduating Stan joined and was an extremely proud Veteran of the United States Air Force and spent eighteen months in Vietnam.
Stan went to work on the Boston & Maine Railroad and eventually retired from the Mass Bay Commuter Railroad Co. after a 40-year career. Stan also worked at Boston Garden for many years.
Stan was an avid and very good golfer, and he loved his Boston Bruins.
Stan was pre-deceased by his wife Sandra (DeNucce), sisters Virginia Riley and Patty Mitchell.
Stan leaves his son Christopher and his wife Lynda (Moses) Mitchell of Moberly, MO, his grandson Andrew Mitchell, step-grandchildren Ashlyn Maupin and Damian Maupin, his sister Irene O’Donnell and her partner Barry Altmann of Swanzey, NH and his brother John and his wife Tara (Murphy) Mitchell of Stoneham and many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main Street, Stoneham on Monday, March 31 from 4-7pm with a prayer service being offered at 6:45pm.
A private interment will take place at the Massachusetts Military Cemetery in Winchendon, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stan's name may be made to Winchester Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 223 Swanton St #1968, Winchester, MA 01890
