Stella Smith

Stella F. Smith , 85 of Lowell, formerly of Wakefield died Friday March 13, at Willow Manor in Lowell. Born in Chelsea, December 13, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Edward P. and Stella (Matuszak) Hanlon.

Mrs. Smith attended St. Rose Elementary school in Chelsea and was a graduate of Chelsea High School class of 1942. As a child she summered in Adams, MA with her fond Aunt Sophie Matuszak. She moved to Wakefield in 1954 where she raised her family. In 2000 she moved to Lowell with her daughter Patricia. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, the ocean and Foxwoods casino.

Mrs. Smith was the wife of the late John J. "Joe" Smith and is survived by her 4 children; Francis Smith of Dallas, PA, Patricia Vozzo of Lowell, Edward Smith of Wakefield and Janet Snyder of Evansville, IN, a brother Edward Hanlon of Saugus, and her 11 grandchildren; Kerry Pizzano, Amanda Vozzo, Jonathan and Jacob Snyder, Lauri Gresham, Jacob, Amy Lomerson , Benjamin, Patricia, Alex, Emily and Hannah. She is also survived by her 6 great grandchildren and her loving daughter in laws Eileen and Joanne Smith and son in law Vincent Vozzo.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Monday at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday morning prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 11AM.

The family would like to thank all of the compassionate people at the Willow Nursing Home in Lowell; especially Jackie Taveras.
