Thelma Salemme

Thelma I . Salemme , 86, of Melrose formerly of Somerville, died Monday, June 1 at the Wingate at Reading Nursing Center.

Born in Somerville on April 28, 1923 she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Hogan) Haley.

Mrs. Salemme was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1941. She was a retired secretary at Malden Hospital and Somerville Hospital. Mrs. Salemme had been a resident of the Steele House in Melrose for the past 21 years and had been an active Bingo player.

Mrs. Salemme was the mother of Thomas Salemme & his wife Nancy Omogrosso of No. Reading, Patricia Walker & her husband Thomas of Beverly, Joseph Salemme & his companion Carol Philbrick of Wilmington, Joan Stinson & her husband Mark of Wakefield and John Salemme of Everett & his companion Theresa Casella. She was the sister of J. Russell of Centerville and the late Warren "Skip" Haley, Edward Haley, Evelyn Flanagan and Myra Minchello. Mrs. Salemme was the grandmother of Thomas Walker, Kristin Aborn, Jessica Walker, Nicole Wilson, Jeffrey Salemme , Matthew Salemme and Adam Salemme . She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and her dear friend Debi MacNeil of Reading.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St, Stoneham on Thursday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Clement Church, 70 Warner St, in Somerville at 10am. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8pm. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tenants Association at the Steele House, 1 Nason Dr, Melrose, MA 02176 or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
