Thomas P. Butler, 65, of Wakefield, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Saturday, April 30.
Born in Melrose on March 28, 1946, he was the son of the late William H. Jr. and Helen (Kennedy) Butler.
Tom was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1964 and also graduated from Boston College in 1968. He then went on to served his country in the United States Army. Tom had been the Town Administrator for Wakefield and was also the town's Executive Secretary. He was elected as a Corporator of The Savings Bank in Wakefield in 1992. He was elected to the Board of Trustees at the bank in 2007 and became a member of the Audit Committee that same year. On April 20th, the Trustees appointed him to the Governance Committee.
Tom was a sports enthusiast and an avid Red Sox fan.
He was the brother of Kathleen Lyng and her husband James of Marshfield, William Butler and his wife Virginia of Wakefield, Robert Butler and his wife Patricia of Mercerville, NJ, and Brian Butler and his wife Kathleen of Weymouth. Tom is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews, and 12 grandnieces and grandnephews.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A visitation period will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham.
