Thomas Doherty

Thomas A. Doherty of Peabody and formerly of Charlestown and Malden died April 28 at age 78. Born in Boston on October 2, 1931 he was the son of the late Bernard & Rose (Gibbons) Doherty. He was raised in Charlestown and was retired form the U.S. Postal Service and had worked at South Postal Annex in Boston. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mr. Doherty is survived by his wife Sheila (Doherty). He was the father of Henry M. Doherty & wife Gail of Malden, Rosemary Kearney & husband Michael of Lynnfield, Kathleen Doherty of Nashua, NH, Thomas A. Doherty of Wakefield, Sheila Ryan & husband Christopher of Lynnfield and Maureen Gaffney & husband Bernard of Simsbury, CT. He was the brother of John Doherty of Pembroke, Bernard Doherty, Cecilia Doherty & Rosemary Swanson all of Medford, Sarah Loonie of Quincy , Rita Coughlan of Charlestown and the late Patrick Doherty & Catherine Donovan. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield Monday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in the Our Lady of the Assumption Church corner of Grove & Salem Sts. Lynnfield at 10:00. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 1-5pm. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
