Thomas Edson

Thomas A. Edson, 58 of Wakefield, formerly of Reading died on Sunday, June 1st at his home after a year long battle with head and neck cancer.

Born in Winchester on June 21, 1955 he was the son of Clarence Robert and Margaret (Crawford) Edson of Reading.

Tom was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School, Class of 1973. He had retired in 2010 as a DC #35 Union Wall-coverer. He coached youth sports in Wakefield and served as a Cub Scout Master. Tom was known for his easy going personality and devotion to his friends and family. He enjoyed travel, especially to Jamaica, and relaxing at his Plum Island home.

In addition to his parents, Tom is survived by his wife Joie L. (Rindone) Edson, his daughter JoEllen Edson of Wakefield, his two sons; Thomas A. Edson, Jr., of Malden and Kevin M. Edson of Boston. He was the brother of Bob Edson of Wakefield, Peggy Ann Edson of W. Roxbury, Jim Edson of Reading, Rosie Edson-McColl of Orleans, Rick Edson of Gilford, New Hampshire, June Edson-Frisiello of Wakefield, John Edson and Matt Edson both of Reading. He was the son-in-law of Carole A. Rindone of Reading and Louis F. Rindone of FL. Tom is also survived by his dog Lucy, his grand-dog Sadie, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield on Saturday June 7th at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday June 6th from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boston Children's Hospital, c/o 6th Floor Resource Room, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
