Thomas H . Melanson , 53, of Wakefield, MA died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Kaplan House in Danvers after a courageous battle against cancer.
Born in Winchester, MA on December 7, 1962 he was the son of the late Howard E. Sr. and Elaine M. (Meuse) Melanson .
Tom was raised in Wakefield, attended Wakefield public schools, and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1980. He was a member of the 1979-80 Wakefield HS hockey team that was inducted into the WHS Hall of Fame. He attended St. Anselm College and Salem State College and was a member of the 1984-85 NCAA Final Four team at Salem State. Tom was a member of Teamsters Local #25, a member of Knights of Columbus Council #104, and worked for DHL for over 25 years. Tom was devoted to his family and an avid sports fan.
Tom is survived by his sons Brian T., Michael A., and Steven J., all of Wakefield and his former wife Suzanne (Tremblay) Melanson . He is also survived by his sister Joanne M. Cronin of Lynnfield and his brothers John E. of Yardley, PA, Edward J., Peter G., Dennis P., Timothy D., and Howard E. Jr. all of Wakefield. He is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield, MA 01880 on Monday, October 17 from 4-8 PM. Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home at 9:00 AM Tuesday, October 18. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield, MA at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
