Thomas O'Melia, Sr.

Thomas Michael O'Melia, Sr., age 67, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Stoneham, died Monday, May 11 in Florida.

Born in Melrose on February 3, 1953 he was the son of the late William E. and Dorothy L. (Gerard) O'Melia.

Mr. O'Melia was raised in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School. He had worked for the MBTA for many years and retired as a District Superintendent of Bus Operations. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He had been a longtime Stoneham resident and parishioner at St. Patrick Church before making his residence in Florida for the past ten years.

He was the beloved husband of Celia J. (LoGrasso), with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Thomas M. O'Melia, Jr. of East Boston, Stephanie Lavino and her husband Joseph of Wilmington, and Peter O'Melia and his wife Alexandra of South Weymouth. He was the cherished grandfather of Leia and Alisa Lavino of Wilmington and Liam and Maggie O'Melia of County Kerry, Ireland. He was the brother of the late William E. O'Melia, Jr. and Daniel O'Melia. He is also survived by many cousins and his nephews; as well as his close friend, Frank Cabral.

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 the funeral services will be private. Arrangements in the care of the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, Stoneham.

Family and friends will be invited to join in a celebration of Tom's life at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom St, Boston, MA 02114.
