Victor Barton, age 94 of Stoneham, died at his residence on May 23, 2014, after a period of failing health. Born in Boston on May 28, 1919, the son of the late Peter and Ovsanna (Pashoian) Barton. Mr. Barton was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1938. For many years he co-owned and operated the Mobil Edgeworth Service Station on Highland Avenue in Malden with his brother Barker Barton. He later was the assistant manager at DCR "Sandy Beach" in Winchester. He had also been a member of the Wakefield Lodge of Elks and the Burlington Mall Walkers Club where he formed many friendships.
Mr. Barton was a decorated W.W. II veteran and served as a Sgt. with the U.S. Army 505th Counter Intelligence Corps. He saw extensive action in Europe including the D-Day Invasion at Normandy Beach, France. He served for more than four years in Europe and was the recipient of the "Purple Heart". He remained active in his later years as a member and Secretary of the Military Intelligence Association of New England.
Mr. Barton was the beloved husband of the late Elaine M. (Bishop) Barton. He was the loving father of Victor M. Barton and his wife Carol of Stoneham, Krisanne M. Sheedy and her husband Dennis of Easton, and Donise McGinn and her husband Thomas of ME. He was the loving grandfather of Eric and Matthew McGinn and Ryan and Jillian Sheedy. He was pre deceased by his brothers Horace, Barker and Berge Barton.
His funeral service will be held in the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home 322 Main St. Stoneham on Saturday, at 11:30am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service starting at 10am. Internment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham with Military Honors.
