Virginia (Gray) Harrington Eck, of Reading, entered into heaven on July 2, 2011.
Born in Framingham on August 30, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William and Virginia Blanchard Gray.
Devoted wife of William Daniel Harrington, Jr. until his death in 1964; later of Francis S. Eck, also predeceased. Beloved mother of Michael W. Harrington, who preceded his mother in death in 2004, and his wife Shelia H. Harrington of Chelmsford; Patricia E. Wheeler, of Reading; Kathleen M. Harrington of Reading; Peter E. Harrington and his wife Linda, of Quakertown, PA; and Joseph B. Harrington and his wife Kathryn A. Gregory, of Wakefield. Adored Grammy to Mary (Falmouth MA), David (Bernville PA), Christopher (West Lawn PA), Michelle (Quakertown PA), Erin (Lunenburg MA), William, Ryan, Conor and Liam (Wakefield MA).
Known as Ginger to her friends as a young woman, Virginia grew up in Framingham and started her family there with her husband William and then moved to Pennsylvania. Virginia was a remarkable woman who raised her children as a single mother after she became a widow, working two jobs for many years. She married Frank Eck in 1969, and relocated to Summerfield, FL, where she enjoyed 24 years. Following her husband's death, she returned to Massachusetts to live.
Funeral from McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield, Thursday at 9am followed by a funeral mass on Our lady of the Assumption Church, corner of Salem and Grove Sts, at 10 o'clock.. Following the Mass, we will accompany our mother to Quakertown, PA, and lay her to rest beside her husband William.
Visitation for Friends and loved ones are invited to the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7pm.
