Virginia A. "Ginny" Hopkins, a lifelong Wakefield resident, died Saturday, November 17 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.
Born in Melrose on August 17, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angela (Pizzano) Capone.
Ginny was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1950. While spending time at Lynn Beach, she met her husband, the late Bernard J. Hopkins, and they were married in 1955 and settled in Wakefield. After raised their family, they enjoyed traveling all over the world, taking trips to Niagara Falls, Italy, Greece and many more. Ginny was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening and writing. She was a member of the Italian Club, the Red Hat Society and was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Church. Above all, she was devoted to her family, she loved her children and cherished her role as a grandmother. She most enjoyed hosting her family at her annual 4th of July party.
She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard J. Hopkins. She was the loving mother of John J. Hopkins of Wakefield and Patricia A. Dente and her husband Michael of Reading. She was the cherished sister of the late Sylvia Vellante and Lillian Raffael. She was the adoring grandmother of Matthew, Mark and Michael Dente and John J. Hopkins, Jr. and his wife Maria and Melanie Hopkins. She was the great grandmother of Skylar Grace and Alexander. She is also survived by her aunt Dorothy Anastas of Wakefield and many nieces and nephews, including her special great niece Kristen Tenbroek.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Wednesday at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield prior to the mass beginning at 8:00am. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
