Waldo J. Gagnon, originally of Bangor, Maine, resided in Lynnfield, MA and Naples, FL passed away on April 25, 2025 at the age of 94. At Bangor High he was president of the rifle club and captain of the baseball team. He played four years of baseball for the Black Bears of the University of Maine and was a member of the M-club and Phi Eta Kappa fraternity.
After graduation, while playing semi-pro baseball, he signed a contract with the New York Giants minor league baseball club. However, having received his commission from the University, he had to report to active duty during the Korean War. His first assignment was a small weapons instructor. Eventually he was promoted to commander with the 101st airborne, commanding a company averaging 235 men. After the service, he continued to play semi-pro baseball in Eastern Maine and Mass. He entered the business field of contract management.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, and his four children: Cathy Jewell and her husband Dennis of Chelmsford, James Gagnon and his wife Maria of Hampton, N. H., Debbie Trongone and her husband Gary of Marshfield, Michael Gagnon and his wife Carolyn of Winthrop, and eight grandchildren.
He retired from Sanders Associates which was subsequently bought out by Lockheed-Martin in 1990. He and his wife spent their winters in Naples, FL playing tennis and golf together.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, corner of Salem and Grove Sts, Lynnfield on Thursday, May 1 at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
