Walter Bernis

Walter J. Bernis, of Stoneham, formerly of East Cambridge, died on Sunday. September 23 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Boston on September 20, 1942, he was the son of the late John E. and Sophie (Gaina) Bernis.

Mr. Bernis was raised in educated in the West End of Boston. He had been a Stoneham resident for the past 20 years. Mr. Bernis retired from M.I.T in the mail service department and had also worked at B.F. Goodrich in Watertown.

He is survived by his wife Margery A. (O'Connor) Bernis, his two sons; Walter J. Bernis of Malden and James P. Bernis and his wife Jade of Nashua, New Hampshire; and his brother, Edward Bernis and his wife Barbara of Somerville. Mr. Bernis is also survived by his four grandchildren and his two great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William Bernis.

His Funeral Service will be held in the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Saturday at 1pm. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home prior to the Service starting at 11am. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham.
