Walter E. Rees, 92 of Wakefield died Monday, August 31 at his home.
Born in Everett on May 16, 1923 he was the son of the late Samuel and Harriet (LeGrow) Rees.
Mr. Rees was a graduate of Everett High School and later went on to serve in the United States Army during WWII where we was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired member of Boilermakers Local 29 where he had served multiple roles, including Secretary Treasurer, Assistant Business Agent and Apprentice Coordinator. Mr. Rees was a past member of the Elks and the Masons and had a passion for politics. He enjoyed Friday night bowling and spending his winters in Pompano Beach, FL.
He was the husband of the late Claire (Hannaford) Rees and the late Muriel (Trevors) Rees. He was the uncle of Barbara Notemyer of Glenmills, PA, Pamela Caswell of Everett, William Rees and his wife Peggy of Hookset, NH, Charlene Hannaford of Boxford, Donna Staszko of Ocean Springs, MS, Brad Notemyer and his wife Renee of Francestown, NH, and Michael Caswell and his wife Lori, and Kim Rees, all of Everett. He is also survived by many other loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 11am. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7pm.
