Webster P. Jackson, 89, of Peabody, formerly of Ipswich and Wakefield, died on February 5, 2011 at Brooksby Village in Peabody. Webster was born on January 26, 1922 and raised in Wakefield.
Married for over 60 years to the love of his life, the late Virginia "Gina" Moomaw, he is survived by his brother Davis and his wife Marlene from Carmichael, CA, and his son Mark M Jackson of Southampton, MA, and predeceased by his son William W. Jackson of Perry, ME and Salisbury NC. He also leaves his daughters-in-law, Martha (Collier) and Karen (Wakefield); his grandchildren Emily Jackson Sanborn, Dr Bryan Jackson, and Jessica and Nathan Jackson; and great grandchildren Rian, Pippa, Deven and Rowan;
Webster graduated from Bates College 1943, and served in the Navy during World War II and later in the Navy Reserves. He worked at A. C. Lawrence Leather Co. in Peabody as a hide buyer until he retired and moved to Ipswich for 25 years before moving into Brooksby Village Retirement Community in Peabody.
Webster was a leader in community activities serving on many committees and boards. He was: a life-time member of the First Baptist Church in Wakefield and a former Sunday school superintendent, teacher and member of the building committee and Messenger Corp; an active Bates Alumni, remaining very close with classmates; a long-time member and former master of the Wakefield Masonic Lodge; a member of the Lakeside Cemetery Association; a sailing enthusiast and a past Commodore for the Quannapowitt Yacht Club in Wakefield and later a member of the Ipswich Yacht Club; and an active member of community life at Brooksby Village. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a gentleman who devoted his life to his family, friends and service to his community.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 8 Lafayette St. Wakefield, MA.
