William F. Cargill, 78, of Durham, NH, formerly of Melrose and Lynnfield, died on Wednesday, October 24.
Born in Melrose on October 13, 1934, he was the son of the late William and Madalene (Foley) Cargill.
Mr. Cargill spent his childhood in Melrose and raised his family in Lynnfield. He served in the Coast Guard from 1952-56 and later graduated with honors from Wentworth Institute. He held fond memories of playing pond hockey, working in on the boats in Boston Harbor, traveling with his wife, and enjoying the outdoors with his family in North Conway.
He was employed by Insurance Services Office of Quincy from 1962 until his retirement in 1998. Mr. Cargill is survived his beloved wife, Ulrike (Trainer) Cargill; his children Kenneth R. Cargill of North Conway, NH, Barry W. Cargill of Amesbury, and Cynthia B. Cargill of Durham, NH; his grandchildren, Ben, Jordan, Leah, Ian, his brother, Kerry C. Cargill of Newburyport and nieces and nephews. Bill will be remembered as a dedicated father and husband and person of few but important words. His passions included working on his homes and spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Sunday from 1-3:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at the Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to a reception to celebrate Bill's life at Bear Hill Golf Club at 4:00. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
