William A. Hafner, 92, of Wakefield and formerly of Medford, died on Wednesday, March 27 at the Golden Living Center – Elmhurst in Melrose.
Born in London, Ohio on February 24, 1921 he was the son of the late Frank S. and Helen R. (Clark) Hafner.
Mr. Hafner was raised in Sandusky, OH. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Naval Aviator until 1981. He had worked for Whitings Milk of Charlestown for 25 years and later worked at Sears for 20 years.
Mr. Hafner was a longtime resident of Medford and had retired to East Harwich. He was a member of the Medford Knights of Columbus and was an avid bowler. He was also a member of the Teamsters.
Mr. Hafner was the husband of the late Helen M. (Martin) Hafner. He was the father of William F. Hafner of Billerica, Barbara M. Quinlan of Melrose and Patricia Hafner Buker of Wakefield. He was the brother of Frank H. Hafner of OH and the late Esther Mathes. He is also survived by his grandchildren, John & Brian Quinlan, Erik & Franz Buker and William M. Hafner and his great grandchildren, Troy, Cole & Mia Quinlan.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Internment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
