William Billings

William J . Billings , 64, of Wakefield passed away at his home on Thursday, Sept. 30.

Born in Boston on July 23, 1946, he was the son of the late Henry J . and Audrey L. (Wentzell) Billings .

Mr. Billings was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1964 and later graduated from Northeastern University. He had been in the Army National Guard and was active with the youth Basketball in Wakefield. William had been J .V. Coach for Lynnfield High School and had coached at the Wakefield High School. Mr. Billinghad worked at M.I.T. for 16 years before joining the Globe staff.

Mr. Billings was the husband of Roxanna (Savary) Billings . He was the father of Craig Billings and his wife Angela of Peabody, and Meredith Billings of Wakefield. William was the brother of Joan Pappalardo of Peabody, Esther Catalano of Ohio, and Henry F. Billings of Lebanon, NH. He is also survived by his grandson Anthony Billings .

A Funeral service will be held in the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St., Wakefield on Tuesday at 11am. A visitation period will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday from 4 – 8 p.m.

Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Wakefield High School Boys Basketball, c/o Coach Brad Simpson, Wakefield High School, 60 Farm St., Wakefield, MA 01880
