William Johnston

William Johnston

William F. Johnston, 75, of Kissimmee, Florida, formerly of Melrose and Wakefield, died on Monday, December 6, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Melrose to Leslie J. and Hazel I. (Gerrior) Johnston. He grew up in Wakefield, attending St. Joseph's Grammer School, and Wakefield High School.

He married Betsy Batchelder of Stoneham in September 1956. He Joined the Army National Guard in 1953 and served for 8 years until 1961. He retired from E.G.& G. in Wakefield in 1993 and moved shortly after to Kissimmee where he worked as a Crossing Guard, first with the Kissimmee Police Dept., then with the Sheriff;s Dept. of Osceola County. He retired from there in February 2010.

Mr. Johnston is survived by his four daughters; Patricia Lamb and her husband William of Deltona, Fl., Katherine West and her husband Gary of Wakefield, Karen Battisti and her husband Joe of Woburn and Linda Johnston of Charlestown. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Timothy Lamb, Daniel West, and Jennifer Landry, and l great grandchild, Dustin Rosenstein. He has two surviving brothers Leslie J. Johnston, Jr. and his wife Dorothy, and Brad Johnston and his wife Julie and several Nieces and Nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Betsy Cole and his second wife, Barbara Johnston and his brother Tom Johnston and his wife Barbara (Young) Johnston.

A memorial service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Friday at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends prior to the service starting at 9am. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
