WIlliam Phelan

William D. Phelan, 85, of Stoneham, died on Sunday, June 5 at the Meadowview Nursing Center in North Reading.

Born in Cambridge on February 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Lillian Phelan.

Mr. Phelan was raised in Somerville and had been a Stoneham resident since 1983. He had retired from the Department of Defense and had later worked at Lechmere. Mr. Phelan was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 19 in Somerville and Wakefield Lodge of Elks.

Mr. Phelan was the husband of the late Doris G. (Williamson) Phelan. Father of William D. Phelan, Jr. and his wife Joan of Brewster, Susan M. Buckley of North Reading and the late Doris G. Cacciola. Father-in-law of Anthony Cacciola. Grandfather of William III, Anthony, Steven, Paul, Daniel, Ryan, Shawn and John. Great Grandfather of Katie, Liam, Ava, Grant, Ella and Giavanna.

A funeral service will be held in the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St, Stoneham on Wednesday at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Inc., 69 Grove St, Worcester, MA 01605.
