William Wallace

William J. Wallace, 69, former manager of Wakefield Municipal Light & Gas Department, passed away at his home on Friday, March 21.

Born on January 28, 1945 at Melrose Hospital, he was the son of the late William and Dorothy (Walsh) Wallace. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Wakefield. Bill volunteered countless hours coaching and supporting youth sports in Wakefield. He was also very committed to many community organizations in Wakefield.

Bill will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Judith (Quinn) Wallace and his four children: Wendy A. Wallace of Wakefield, William and his wife Tricia Wallace of Reading, Amy Wallace of Wakefield and Shawn and his wife Meghan Wallace of Waltham. Hew also leaves behind his six grandchildren who meant the world to him: Scott, Madison, Allison, Ryan, Benjamin and Owen.

Bill graduated from Wakefield High School in 1963 and was very active in the varsity sports of basketball and tennis. Bill graduated from Northeastern University in 1968. Following his graduation from Northeastern he was named assistant engineer in 1968 and four months later he was named engineer. He became manager on May 19, 1976 and remained in the position until his retirement in 2007.

Bill was very active in the community. He coached youth basketball and soccer. He also coached hundreds of local children who played baseball for the Wakefield Little League's American League Angels during the past 30 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and a former member of the Wakefield Rotary Club.

Upon his retirement, Bill spent time with his family between Wakefield and Lake Winnepesaukee.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave Wakefield on Wenesday at 10:30 A.M. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Paish, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 11:30. Visitation for relatives and friends will be eld at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 - 8 P.M.
