William H. Watt, 91, of Brooksby Village in Peabody and former long time Reading resident died Aug. 31 at the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Winthrop on June 12, 1917 he was the son of the late Thomas L. & Amy L. (Turner) Watt. Mr. Watt was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and later from Northeastern University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Watt was a veteran of W.W. II and served in the Army Air Corps as a Meteorologist in Africa and earned the Rank of Captain. Early in life he had worked in the pharmacy business and became a Registered Pharmacist. Returning home from W.W.II he began his professional career in Chemical Engineering and worked for the Exxon Corporation for 30 years and later with the Polaroid Corporation for 25 years at the Waltham Plant.
Mr. Watt was active in the affairs of Reading and was a past member of the Public Works Board and served as Chairman in 1964. He was also a Town Meeting Member in Reading for many years and was a volunteer of the Salvation Army. He enjoyed sailing, woodworking and was an avid follower of financial news.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ruth E. (Betts) Watt. His son William G. Watt & wife Sally Ann of Wakefield. His two daughters, Betsy Watt of Taunton and Amy Victoria Watt & her husband Peter Noel of Beverly. Also his grandchildren, William J. & Michael J. Watt and Julia R. Noel. He was predeceased by his sister Peggy Parsons.
A Memorial Service will be held in the First Parish Congregational Church 1 Church St. Wakefield Saturday September 13 at 2:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours.
