William F. Whitney, 86, of Lynnfield died June 26 at his home after a long period of failing health.
Born in Portland, ME on March 17, 1925 he was the son of the late William F. and Barbara G (McDonald) Whiney.
Mr. Whitney was raised in Portland, ME and was a graduate of Deering High School in Maine and later from the University of Maine at Orono. He was a retired production support engineer from the General Electric Aviation Division in Lynn. He had been a Lynnfield resident since 1958 and had been a member of the Centre Congregational Church of Lynnfield.
Mr. Whitney was an active member of the Masons and served was past Master of the Wayfarers Lodge of Marblehead from 1968-69 and served many other capacities for the Lodge including assistant secretary for many years. He was a member and past president of the Past Masters Association of the North Shore and also the Washington Royal Arch Chapter and served several years as its treasurer. He was also a member of the Scottish Rites Bodies. Mr. Whitney was also a WWII Army Veteran and served in the European Theater with the First Engineer Combat Battalion.
Mr. Whitney is survived by his wife Suzanne A. (Dizambourg) Whitney. He was the father of Mariane B. Newton and her husband Richard of Middleton and James W. Whitney and his wife Catherine of Hudson, NH. He was the brother of John and Robert Whitney of NY. He is also survived by his three granddaughters Shelia, Megan, and Kirsten and his great-granddaughter Amanda.
His funeral will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday June 30 at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8pm.
