The family owned business was founded by Bill McDonald Sr., the son of the late Joseph and Esther McDonald. In 1952 at age 21, Bill Sr. became the youngest licensed funeral director in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Prior to that he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, attended Boston University and graduated from New England Institute in 1949.
Bill lived his entire life in Wakefield and served the public not only through the home but also through membership in various clubs and organizations. He had been a member of the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield, the Wakefield YMCA, and Wakefield Rotary Club and was a life member of the Wakefield Lodge of Elks, Knights of Columbus, VFW and West Side Social Club. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association and a past board member and a past member of the National Funeral Directors Association. Bill served as a trustee and Audit Committee member and was an honorary board member of The Savings Bank in Wakefield.
